2 The Conference is part of the priority activities of the 2011-2015 ACW work plan to promote women’s economic empowerment. The ASCC Blueprint stresses women’s economic participation and their need for social protection. Recently, the AMMW (ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women) endorsed the Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Women’s Entrepreneurs’ Network (AWEN), whose present Chair, Vietnam, is here with us today. AWEN is in support of the needs of women entrepreneurs for technical assistance, financing, market, technology know-how.

4 a) Heighten awareness and appreciation of the situation of women engaged in enterprise development and their contribution to the economic objectives of the ASEAN community building process; b) Share good practices among ASEAN members on social protection schemes for women in MSMEs; and c) Facilitate greater cooperation among ASEAN member countries in promoting social protection for women in MSMEs.

5 Policy and program recommendations for consideration in the preparation of the Action Plan to implement the Declaration on Social Protection (to make the Plan of Action responsive to the social protection needs of women entrepreneurs) Note: this conference will be followed by the Intersectoral Consultation on the Development of a Plan of Action for the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration, on Dec 8-9 in Cambodia. Our conference output, our recommendations to make the action plan responsive to the needs of women entrepreneurs will be forwarded to the Consultation for consideration.
