4 American Heritage and People in Societies This strand refers to those aspects of the past that help to make the American people unique among the peoples of the world while at the same time recognizing what we hold in common with other people.

5 Activities for American Heritage covering our lesson: We Care for the Earth Make a mobile of the Earth. Color the pictures and cut them out. Draw a picture of your dream home. Cut on the dotted lines. Draw the people and animals in your home. Draw what you see from a window in your home. Make a “ Day at the Pond” picture. Color the frogs and the flowers. Color the fish and the dragonflies, and turtles.

6 Activities Cont. Make Tree Resource Puppets. Color in the tree puppet. Draw the other puppets. Color in all of the pictures. Make a Recycled Crafts Projects. Draw one thing to make in each box.

8 People in Societies This strand recognizes that the United States and the world encompass many different racial, ethnic, and religious groups. It also recognizes that factors such as the gender and class provide people with different perspectives.

9 Activities for People in Societies Make a time line. Color and cut out the arrow for the line. Make a chain of events. Number the pictures in the correct order. Draw four things you do a school each day. Number the boxes in the correct order. Make a flip book. Color and cut out the pictures. Draw a picture of yourself and draw a picture of things from different cultures.

10 Activities Cont. Make a welcome card. Write the name of your town in the box. Draw one place from your town below. Write a message to someone new on the line. Have a Special Days Parade. Draw a picture of yourself enjoying a special day. Write the name of the special day on the line.

12 World Interactions This strand explores the links people make around the world as they attempt to address common problems.

13 Activities for World Interactions Make a flag of your own. Draw a picture of a flag. Fill in your name. Cut out and label. Make a “Take Care” Poster. Color and cut out pictures or draw a pet on the box and cut it out. Make a Landform map. Color this anyway you want. Make symbol cards. On the back of each card, draw a picture that stands for World Interactions.

14 Activities Cont. Building a neighborhood. Make store fronts and glue them onto cartoons. Make a library and a police station and some skyscrapers. Color some apartment buildings and houses. Make a swing set, slide, see-saw, and bench for your house. Color a lot of trees with squirrels, cats, dogs, and whatever other animals you want. Add anything else to your neighborhood you want. You can think of what you might find in a neighborhood of a different culture and how do you think they would celebrate their earth day?

16 Citizenship, Rights, and Responsibilities This strand provides context for examining and engaging in those activities that are a part of an adult’s public life.

17 Activities for Citizenship, Rights, and Responsibilities The Great Trash Bash. Clean up Beaston! Look at the picture of Beaston below. Color everything in the picture except for the trash. Draw an X on the trash. Recycle Your Trash. Be a good citizen of Beaston. Recycle your trash and paste the trash in the correct bin at the Recycling Center. Cause and effect on Recycling Shared writing on Thank You Earth The Earth gives me………..

19 Democratic Processes This strand examines the principles of democracy and explores the extent to which governments reflect those principles.

20 Activities for Democratic Processes Working together. Sometimes it takes teamwork to get a job done. Which friends helped. Elephant and mouse make the seesaw go up and down. Use the pictures to retell the story. What is for Lunch? Make a picnic for Elephant and Mouse, but remember to ask them what they want. Remember to always consider the Earth. Invite everyone to join in the elections of candidates who will run for Earth Day Clean Up.

21 Activities Cont. Have a group debate on the pros and cons of Earth Day. Kids have a choice what they make for Kid’s Reinvention to celebrate the Earth.
