9 Letter from Elizabeth to her sons My Dear Sons, I write this, my final word to you, from my cell on this dark night before I am to be taken from this earth and reunited with our Lord. Do not weep for me for I rejoice tonight. Perhaps you think me gone mad for having such feelings on the eve of my execution, but I do not fear except that I fear for your lives as motherless children. Motherless yes, and also without a father, but blessed and upright and endowed with all of the goodness your father has bestowed on you. There be some amongst us who aim to remember your father to you for his sins and there be no denying he did commit them. If you hear his name alongside that of Abigail Williams, believe it for it be the truth. But also know that the silent war between us is the true culprit. Without such terrible circumstances, your father would never have revealed this most dark side. Please remember that he was guilty of his crime due to the chill of our conflict at home.

10 Task Write the next paragraph of the letter, explaining how conflict also brought out the best qualities in John.
