2. Do-Now: Choose your seat today. Have out notes for discussion. Question (Just think about, don’t need to write) Would you prefer to do the single parents component of the unit next week, or would you rather begin on a short research project for the unit? The benefit of doing the short research project first would be that you have more time to make up any missing standards before the session ends. The drawback of this would be that you wouldn’t have much information about single/teen parents if you would potentially want to talk about that as your topic.

Announcements/Reminders Outside reading due Monday, November 11 There is a conference at Saint Mary’s University Twin Cities Campus that will be examining human trafficking, especially focusing on its impact in the twin cities. How the discussion will work: 1)The inner circle will be responsible for facilitating conversation– Ms. Stitt may jump in occasionally, but it is up to the group to keep the conversation going. 2)We may begin with your thoughts on the initial question of “Should people be required to report child abuse?” but this can also transition into other questions as well (you do not need to stick with this question specifically, as long as it’s relevant). 3)The outer circle will be taking notes on how well the inner circle is performing. 4)After 10-15 minutes of discussion with the first group, we will hear feedback from the outer circle and then switch groups.

8. Things to keep in mind: This is a CONVERSATION, not a debate. Worry less about “winning” and more about coming to clearer conclusions and answers. Refer to the text and primary sources when you can as you are speaking. Speak up at least three times throughout the discussion. Right now, read through what you will be evaluating others on and what you will be evaluated on yourself.

10. Homework: Look at the charts handout (perpetrators of child abuse) Using the information from the chart, write two-three “solutions” that you would propose to prevent child abuse. Explain each solution in AT LEAST three sentences as to why you think that your solution would be effective. Get a library card before December 2 nd. Reminder: *Groups will present on Monday that haven’t yet
