7  Read the sentences at the top of your worksheet. Answer the question: What do you notice about each “a” sentence? What do all of the phrases in bold have in common? Grammar

8  All of the phrases in bold…  Describe a person or a place  Could not be a sentence on their own  Start with a verb that ends in -ing  They make the sentence more interesting Some answers…

9  Participles describe nouns or pronouns.  Present participles always end in -ing and past participles.  Add: Past participles usually end in -ed. Guided Notes

11  During this activity, EVERY person must participate in their group.  Each group will create a new national anthem (you will do this in 10 minutes – make it short!).  Each group will receive certain limitations.  Keep this at a level 2! Activity: Why We Should NOT Make English Official
