7 The Anomie Theory Ted Bundy is a man who knows the social norms and fits well into society, but abandons them when acting out his extreme sexual fantasy. As an individual, he is intelligent and a master of disguise and charisma. He is well spoken, especially to his victims and was able to lure them without much of a fight, most of the time. Anomie Theory fits best because being a loner, he didn’t have much company to interact with and he really didn’t have anything to lose when it came to committing a crime. He didn’t set out to defy certain norms, he just wanted to live his fantasy. He has a mix of retreatism, rebellion and ritualism within the theory because he doesn’t fit one part through his actions. The retreatism is when he hides away for days on end to plan and conceive plots for his next victim. He didn’t live a normal lifestyle. Rebellion would fit his fantasies because he was deviant in the aspect of pursuing sexual aggressive crimes. This is a blatant form of rebelling against social norms of pursuing partners for the same thing. Ritualism explains why he doesn’t change his patterns. He is perfectly fine with continuing his rampage of sexual assault and burglary.
