8 Meeting the challenges What to do ? Focus was on hardware Focus is now on “people” Hence the “People Challenge”

9 The “People Challenge” What do we know ? Formally a shortage of officers today and the gap in supply will grow, but it is more than just “quantity” Weaknesses identified ? - e.g. Skills, Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience, (Fatigue ?) and more ? Similar issues for shore management, especially if the supply pool from ships dries up
