2 the main buildings The main buildings are one of the most important parts of the Easter rising. THE GENERAL POST OFFICE (GPO) BOLANDS MILLS The main buildings consist of: JACOBS BISCUIT FACTORY THE FOUR COURTS AND MORE!

3 EXECUTIONS JAMES CONNOLLY WAS SHOT SITTING IN A CHAIR BECAUSE HE WAS TOO WEAK TO STAND UP. PADRAIG PEARSE WAS SHOT IN KILMAINHAM JAIL. THOMAS CLARKE WAS SHOT IN KILMAINHAM JAIL. TOMAS MCDONAGH WAS SHOT IN KILMAINHAM JAIL. THE ONLY 1916 LEADERS WHO WERE NOT EXECUTED WERE EAMON DE VALERA AND COUNTESS MARKIEVICZ.

4 The war of independence
THE IRISH WAR OF INDEPENDENCE BEGAN ABOUT 1918. IRELAND WERE FIGHTING THE BRITISH FOR THE COUNTRY’S INDEPENDENCE. WHEN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE WAS OVER THE BRITISH STILL RULED OVER 6 COUNTIES. THOSE 6 COUNTIES ARE NOW KNOWN AS NORTHERN IRELAND. THE CAUSE OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE WAS WHEN THE BRITISH KILLED MANY OF THE IRISH SOLIDERS WHICH MADE MANY PEOPLE ANGRY. .

5 CITIZENS AFTER RISING AFTER THE RISING MANY CITIZENS THREW ROTTEN FOOD AT THE PRISONERS WHILE THEY WERE WALKING TO THE PRISON. THE CITIZENS JEERED AND MOCKED THE PRISONERS BECAUSE THEY BLAMED THEM FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF THEIR BUILDINGS. THE CITIZENS THOUGHT DIFFERENTLY AFTER THE PRISONERS WERE EXECUTED.

6 NEWSPAPERS AFTER THE RISING
HERE IS WHAT THE DUBLIN NEWSPAPERS SAID WHEN THEY WERE ONCE AGAIN PUBLISHED AFTER EASTER WEEK. THE IRISH TIMES SAID THE RISING WAS “ A CRIMINAL ADVENTURE “ THE IRISH INDEPENDENT SAID THAT THE RISING WAS “ INSANE AND CRIMINAL AND THAT THE LEADERS DESERVED LITTLE COMPASSION” THE FREEMAN’S JOURNAL SAID “ IT WAS A RECKLESS AND BARREN WASTE OF LIFE” THE BRITISH COMMANDER, GENERAL MAXWELL, SAID “THE REBELS HAD COMMITTED TREASON AND HAD SIDED WITH GERMANY IN THE MIDDLE OF A DEADLY EUROPEAN WAR”.

7 The rise of sinn Féin THE DEFEAT OF THE EASTER RISING DID NOT MEAN THE END OF THE IRB. IT REAMAINED A SECRET ORGINISATION . THE VOLUNTEERS STAYED ACTIVE ALSO. OVER 2,OOO REBELS WERE IMPRISONED AFTER THE RISING. MOST OF THE VOLUNTEERS WERE KEPT AT FRONGOCH CAMP IN NORTH WALES. BY CHRISTMAS 1916 , THE PRISONERS WERE RELEASED. WHEN THEY RETURNED HOME, THEY AND MANY OTHERS BEGAN TO SUPPORT SINN FÉIN. THE SINN FÉIN PARTY HAD BEEN STARTED BY ARTHUR GRIFFITH IN 1905 WHO WANTED IRELAND TO BE A SEPARATE INDEPENDENT COUNTRY. SINN FÉIN HAD HAD VERY LITTLE SUPPORT IN 1916 BUT THE BRITISH BLAMED THE ORGANISATION FOR THE RISING EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
