Adolf Hitler was born April 20, 1889. The names of his parents were Alois Schickelgruber and Klara Hitler. Hitler was the fourth child but 2 of his siblings died from diphtheria when they were young children and one died not long after birth. Klara loved Adolf with all of her heart and gave him a lot of attention. Adolf’s father was a very strict but comfortable man.

At the age of three Adolf and his family moved to Passau along the Inn River on the German side of the border. After the new addition to the family, Adolf's brother Edmond; the family moved once more in 1895. They moved to a farm community called Hafeld 30 miles southwest of Linz. Another member of the family was born in 1896. Adolf’s sister Paula. Shortly after Paula was born, the Hitler’s moved across from a large Benedictine monastery. They lived there for about 6 months. As a child Adolf Hitler's dream was to enter the priesthood.

After fighting in the first world war, he joined the Nazi party in 1920 and became its leader the following year. As the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, he tried to take over Germany unsuccessfully in 1923 and served time in prison for it. While in prison he wrote a book pronouncing his hatred for the Jewish and Polish people whom he had grown to resent over his lifetime. Although he had horrifying ideas and thoughts, Hitler loved Germany with all his heart and felt he could bring the country up and out of the depression if only people would see things his way. Hitler gained support by promoting nationalism, anti-semitism and anti- communism with charismatic oratory skills and propaganda. He was appointed chancellor in 1933, and wasted no time establishing a totalitarian and fascist dictatorship. Adolf Hitler went on to be the ruler of Germany from 1933 to 1945. Hitler was a very greedy man and wanted to invade Poland in 1939 and gain control over its people. His attacks against Poland eventually grew into World War 2. Within the next three years the Axis Powers, (The three major powers being Germany, Italy, and Japan) controlled most of Europe and large parts of Africa and East and Southeast Asia. However, starting in 1942 the allies gained the upper hand and in 1945 allied armies invaded Germany from all sides, and the war ended On August 15, 1945 with the complete fall of the Axis alliance.

Before and during the course of the war, Hitler ordered the death of over 17 million civilians whom he considered not worthy to live due to factors he believed brought down the German economy and the integrity of the country he loved. These factors included things like a persons race, mental or physical disability, homosexuality or alleged anti-nationalist views. It started with legislation to transport and seclude Jews and other unfit citizens in ghettos and concentration camps where they were worked to death. Eventually as the Nazis gained power, specialized units called Einsatzgruppen murdered Jews and political opponents in mass shootings, while others were crammed into freight trains and transported hundreds of miles to execution camps where they were burned and gassed to death. As time went on, some would escape the grips of the Nazis, either by fleeing to America and other liberated countries before raids were carried out in their towns or by finding German families who would harbor them and help them hide from the soldiers. People started talking, printing secret newsletters and even producing rare underground radio broadcasts to spread the word about these atrocities. Also many Germans were encouraged by Hitler and his supporters to cause harm to the bodies, properties and belongings of those who fit into any of the categories deeming them unfit to live in perfect Germany, even being encouraged to kill anyone thought to be associating with these unfit citizens.

Adolf Hitler affected millions of people even after he died. He tortured and aggravated innocent people because of their race and because of this he made history with the Holocaust. Most students get educated on the Holocaust in grade school and most think of Hitler as a very bad man. I think most people who learned about this topic could never imagine such a thing happening in their life time and I think that people who are educated on the topic have a better appreciation of the world we live in today. Although Hitler’s anger was mostly aimed at the Jews he affected everyone during that time, especially Europe and the surrounding areas. The mood of the time was obviously very depressing during the Holocaust. There were hardly any reasons to smile. Adolf Hitler affected the world in his time and for year after his death. I believe that education about Adolf Hitler and his work will be shared and studied for years to come.
