2 Government 1469- Ferdinand and Isabella marry Ferdinand and Isabella become king and queen 1200s- Moors controlled only southern kingdom of Granada Ferdinand and Isabella unite kingdoms into one country 711- Moors conquer Spain Corregidores- Royal officials Ferdinand and Isabella were known as “Catholic Monarchs”

3  Moors conquered Spain in 711  Spaniards band together and defeated Moors  In 1492, the Moors surrendered to armies of Ferdinand and Isabella, this caused them to give up Grenada  The king and queen sent Spanish inquisition to torture People charged with heresy Technology/Warfare

4  United Spain with religion  Most Spaniards were Christians  Most Spaniards opposed Muslim rule  The king and queen wanted everybody to be Catholic  The Jews converted to Christianity to save themselves  Some Jews, in 1492, left the country instead of converting  Spanish inquisition tortured thousands of people who were charged with heresy  2000 people were burned to death  Most of the Jews and Moors left the country Religion

5  Most Jews and Moors were Artisans, Merchants, Bankers, Doctors and educators  Most Jews and Moors left the country which weakened Spain  Prince Ferdinand and Princess Isabella got married and made the two kingdoms – Castile and Aragon one country Economy/Trade

6  Forced all the Jews and Moors to leave  Most of the Jews and Moors were merchants, artisans, educators, and doctor  There were not many Spaniards to take their place Fall of Spain
