Health and Physical Education K-5 Prepare curriculum framework for the K-5 newly added health block. ◦ Topics for each grade level identified:  Added strands on healthy relationships, human development, nutrition, and exercise, ◦ Materials selected for review by teachers- will be brought for approval on October 22

Social Studies and Science Utilization of time for instruction was the focus- New schedule: 45 minutes daily for science or social studies and no need to pull from that time. Former schedule: ◦ 30 minutes daily for one of these- not both. ◦ Fragmented and often used to make up for other core subjects. ◦ If time was needed to make up for other subjects, it came from here. ◦ If students needed pull out, this time was used.

Cohesive Experience Rather than having these rotate every other day or be inconsistent, teachers met and decided: ◦ Science: Marking Periods 1 and 2  Can keep set up for labs and overlap units as needed. ◦ Social Studies: Marking Periods 3 and 4  Incorporate social studies topics and current events in literacy block during first two marking period s.

Report Card Change Marking Periods 1 and 2 will only have a grade for Science Marking Periods 3 and 4 will only have a grade for Social Studies CRT’s will evaluate this during the year as part of curriculum audit and make recommendations at ongoing meetings during the year.

Every Day Math: Teacher Resources Summer work by CRT team : ◦ Assessments for grades 1-5  Assessments will be consistent for beginning, mid- point, and end of unit.  Assessment guides for all teachers to guide grading.  Plan for continued, job-embedded professional development for this school year:  October 3 and October 10  Four full days to align curriculum with Common Core

Every Day Math: Parent Resources  Common letter to go home to parents at beginning of the year.  Beginning of Unit resources for parents will be sent home consistently by all teachers.  Parent nights for EDM for parents:  November 5: Online Resources for Homework Help.  February: Understanding Secure Skills and Programs for Practice  April: Summer Resources for EDM  August : Getting Ready for the New Year- Game Night for EDM ** February, April, and August dates to be determined as EDM confirms availability.
