3 The purpose of the Science National Honor Society is to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought, to advance students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, and to encourage students to participate in community service and competition. Who We Are

4 Associate Members – must be enrolled in/have completed at least 1 honors/AP science course
Inducted Members – Must be enrolled in/have completed at least 2 honors/AP science courses Associate members may be inducted at the Banquet (May 2016) provided they meet all induction requirements. All inducted seniors in good membership standing will receive a graduation chord. Member Eligibility

5 Must maintain an 80 or above in all level III science classes and all science classes requiring a lab component and, an 85 or above in all other science classes, and an 80 or above in all non-science courses Term grades will be checked at the first meeting of the next term. Must attend all meetings or us with a valid reason otherwise before the meeting. Meetings take place on the second Friday of each month (with a few exceptions). Must meet point requirements by the end of each semester. Must volunteer at the annual DHS TMSCA Tournament or give a valid reason otherwise. Must volunteer once per semester at Boys and Girls Club of Stafford. Member Requirements

6 TMSCA/UIL (Number Sense, Calculator, General Math, General Science)
Practices will be held prior to competitions and will count for points. Exact practice schedule TBD. TMSCA is good practice for UIL and may be used in UIL team selection. SNHS has an extensive database of practice TMSCA/UIL tests not easily found on the Internet that is available to members. Freshmen in Math & Science Academy – TMSCA/UIL tournaments count as an enrichment activity. Practice for Science Olympiads (Physics, Biology, and Chemistry) Practice for AP Examinations Competitions

7 Volunteering Annual Dulles HS TMSCA Tournament (November 21, 2015)
Mandatory for all SNHS members Tutoring students in science through the Math & Science Academy tutoring program Apply to be a tutor (tinyurl.com/msatutorapp) – due 9/18 Boys & Girls Club of Stafford Dulles Middle School TMSCA Program First Annual Dulles Invitational Science Bowl tournament (date TBD) Science events in the community Proctoring practice AP science exams Judging at local middle/elementary school science fairs Dulles SciNow Club NEW THIS YEAR – find your own science related volunteering event. Volunteering

8 Points will be given for attending club events, competitions, and volunteering. For the first semester, members will need to have at least 10 points. If you fail to complete your point requirements by the end of the semester, you will have to obtain twice the number of points you failed to complete plus the second semester’s requirement. For regular service hours, 1 hour = 1 point. For competitions, 1 TMSCA test = 0.5 points; +1 point for attending. For official TMSCA practices, 1 practice = 1 point. Informing us of a science-related volunteering opportunity = 0.5 point. Point System

9 Members can get a demerit for missing a meeting without a valid excuse, signing up for an event and not going, etc. Members that accumulate three demerits will face an appeals committee. Demerits

10 Membership dues are $30. Only ONLINE payment will be accepted – link can be found on our website.
Additionally, members need to fill out the General Membership form (Google Form) and the Travel, Medical, and Agreement forms. All of these forms can be found on the website. Forms are due on October 16, 2015, our next meeting. Dues must be paid ONLINE by October 16, 2015 as well. Member Registration

11 Front: Back: T-Shirt The SNHS t-shirt is mandatory and is valid for as long as you remain in the club - you will not have to purchase another in future years. The t-shirt fee is $15 and must also be paid ONLINE by October 16, 2015.
