3. What is a computer  A computer is, at its most basic, a machine which can take instructions, and perform computations based on those instructions.

4. Hardware The physical parts of a computer, parts you can feel or touch. Printer, mouse, pen drives and the mother board are examples of hardware.

5. Software It is set of instructions that make the computer do something. 2 types:  Operating Systems: The operating system controls your computer's tasks and manages system resources to optimize performance.  Applications: We may refer them as programs. There are plenty of programs a computer can use, for example: text producer, games and a lot more.

6. Main Components of a Computer A computer is a device or a group of devices, designed to do something, such us process information. Input device: used to put data into the computer Processor: does something with the data given by the input device Output device: Is used to tell someone what the result of the processor was Storage device: This stores the things that are important for the computer

7. Main Internal memory MAIN MEMORY: It is used to store all the data and instructions which the computer is going to use. This main memory is electrical, so when you switch it off it will forget all the programs.

8. ROM-RAM ROM: Is a special type of memory which stores a software that makes the computer understand what you want to do. RAM: The RAM is a memory which stores everything which needs to be changed. The RAM stores everything that needs to be changed.

9. Backing storage A storage device is used to store programs and data when the processor is turned off.

10. Operating system OS (Operating Systems) : An Operating System is a software program or set of programs that do all the things needed to make a computer work.

11. User Interface The program that controls what the user sees on the screen is called INTERFACE. There are many types of interfaces depending on what the user has to do. GUI( graphical user interface): it uses graphics to stand for more complicated actions that the computer does. CLI( command line interface):Its also a way of communicating with the computer but his one demands putting specific commands

13. Colossus Was invented in the early 1940s Was invented by a team of code breakers working for the UK, in 2 nd war world The colossus is slow compared with any computer today

14. Mainframes Appeared in the late 1950 and 1960 Created by companies and universities They are very big but still very slow Difficult to manipulate

15. Personal computer In 1970 companies started adding terminals( keyboard and monitor) to these mainframes which helped the people to have their own connection with the computer. With this advance the where called PC because nowadays because they belong and are controlled by a single person

16. Notebook The popularity of portable computers in 1990 grew. And then they were stared being called Notebooks This ones have there own power supply and screen

17. Netbook These are smart, cheap(not always), less powerful laptops They are mainly used to go into the internet

18. Palmtops Some laptops were small enough to fit in the hands and became known as palmtops.

19. Smartphone This is a mobile phone which allows connection to the internet and other networks.
