2. Introduction One of the ways of getting your views heard is to become a member of a political party. A political party has a set of values and beliefs. Parties put up candidates who are then voted into power in an election.

3. Own party You are going to create your own political party. Working in groups imagine that you want to make this country a better place – what would you change? Discuss your ideas….

5. Leader What makes a good leader? Why is the name of a party important? Think of a name for your party that represents some of your ideas and what you will stand for Vote a leader for your party – think of some of the characteristics a good leader must have

6. Aims and Policies Draw a table and fill in What issues you have decided on What you want to do about these issues – AIMS Decide how you are going to tackle these issues – POLICIES See the example on the next slide….

8. Campaign Once you have decided on your issues you must make a campaign Discuss how you are going to get people to agree with your ideas – is there evidence that you can use? Statistics? Design campaign posters that set your key points Write a speech with your ideas – that you can present to the class What arguments might people say to disagree with your points? Can you counter – argue them??

9. Election After hearing all the group speeches – policies hold an election – decide which method of voting to use – try both, would there be a difference in the result? The votes can be done in secret with a ballot card. Count the votes – which part has been elected??

10. Evaluation Why do you think that party was elected? Was it their policies aims? The campaign? The ability to argue points? The research?
