Conquered weaker nations

Europeans created boundaries without regards to tribes or culture
Today still problems with racial-ethnic and tribal violence

Economic & political connections that tie the world’s countries together
Countries industrialized first are known as core nations
Nations around them would next develop based on trade with those nations (semiperiphery)
Countries that sold crops to industrialized nations but did not develop were known as periphery
External Area are nations left out all together

5. Globalization of Capitalism
Adoption of capitalism around the world
Asia was left out of capitalism
Production & trade are now interconnected that events around the world affect us
All societies are part of a world system no matter where they are located
