Social media, it’s hard to define it. Is Facebook a social media site, is television a social media, or Wikipedia a social media site? The best way to define social media is to split the words. Media is an instrument on communication, so social media could be instrument of social communication. Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

 Facebook  Twitter  Skype  Television  Cell phones  Vonage  Yahoo  Google  Gmail

 Now days it have become the part to our daily living. It is very helpful in connecting with friends and sharing important documents, pictures and videos with them. It helps them in doing there class work. An average of more than 7 hours/day is spend by youth on using media and the vast majority have access to a bedroom television, computer, the internet, video games and cell phones. All these effect the health and well-being of children in both positive and negative way

Positive  Media of connection with family and friends  Helps in studies  Keeps us up-to-date  Provides information regarding daily activities world wide  Allow us to share data with everyone. Negative  Substance abuse  Sexual behavior  Aggression  Disordered eating  Academic difficulties  Addiction  Lack of participation in extracurricular activities.

 Youth can be misguided by false advertisements or propaganda shown on the internet which can lead to their involvement in the negative activities. Their mind can be distracted from their studies by using social media in access  Moreover, uses of Facebook have helped the students and youth in several ways as they can find their friends and classmate on Facebook because of the information shared by them. For example, their name, profile picture, friend list and network.

 Use of social media is also helpful in maintaining a connection between teachers and students outside the classroom. A student could seek for any help from the teacher using social media like Facebook which could help him to solve his queries related to course and to make a comfortable and non-anxious relationship between teacher and student. Moreover, the teachers profile on social media and their pictures with family would able to know about the conventional psychological boundaries that exists between professor and students and it may also help to soften these traditional boundaries.

 On the other hand, it may also ends up affecting the student’s perception of a teacher’s credibility and their reports of motivation and affective learning by what the teacher discloses on Facebook. The amount of photographs and the information provided on the social networking site by the teachers can positively or negatively alters the student’s perception. This information includes teacher’s Facebook friends, special interest group or the personal information of the teacher

 The course I think is all about brain and thinking and its documents and teaching does not have much relevance with the social media but still social media helps us in performing any activity related to course, as all the course documents I need are available on college blackboard. Moreover, online videos have been used to give us information regarding any topic in the class. We were able to find the videos on our blackboard id after the class which were very helpful to complete the assignments based on that videos.

 Besides this, the more use of internet and media gives us more information about its functioning, which I can relate to the neuroplasticity or rewiring of the brain taught to us in the class. We were taught that the neurons that fire together wire together and they make their new neural pathways if we learn something new and the more we would be able to perform that task in a better way. Hence, we can perform any task on internet in a better way which we have been practicing regularly which is a good example of neuroplasticity.
