Open Science folder to review vocabulary words and outline for the chapter. Open Science journal and answer the following questions: 1- Name four parts that make up a simple circuit. Review Content Cards and Q-Cards in bin, sharing with partners quizzing each other quietly. Log in to clickers using student ID number. Be ready to review home learning when timer goes off. Don't forget to write your home learning in your agenda page 152A.

6 Parallel Circuit A parallel circuit is complex and has more than one path. -For example, computers have very complex paths and can hold millions of paths and resistors. Every branch of a parallel circuit can hold one or more resistors and has more resistors that a series circuit. All the paths of a parallel circuit do not have to be on at the same time because switches can control different parts of the circuit.

7 Electromagnets Electromagnets are made when a current flows through a coiled wire in a circuit and changes the electrical energy into magnetic energy. -One way to make an electromagnet stronger is to use a wire with more coils or to increase the current. -Another way to make an electromagnet stronger is by adding a metal bar inside the coils. An electromagnet is different from a regular magnet because you cannot turn a regular magnet on and off. Unlike a regular magnet, you can change the strength of an electromagnet, and like all magnets; an electromagnet has a north and south pole.

8 Ways we use electromagnets We use electromagnets in motors, sound systems, and even doorbells. The electromagnet in a motor turn on and off quickly and this causes parts of the motor to spin. The electrical energy turns into mechanical energy that can move many things like toy cars to even huge trains. Electrical Safety Do not touch electrical outlets. Cover unused outlets with safety caps. Always pull the plug out of an outlet. Do not pull on the cord. It may damage the wires. Immediately replace old cords. Never touch a power line. Never touch an electrical machine if you are standing in water. Do not use electrical appliances near water. BRAIN POP: Electromagnets
