1 Access Prior Knowledge Lesson 2: What are forces? Opening Activity Open Science textbook to page 410. Open Science folder to review vocabulary words and outline for the chapter. Open Workbook to page 130A. Open Science journal and answer the following questions: 1-Robert moved 28 meters in 4 seconds. Tallana moved 600 meters in 2 minutes. Javier moved 40 meters in 5 seconds. List these people and their speeds in order from fastest to slowest. Review Content Cards and Q-Cards in bin, sharing with partners quizzing each other quietly. Log in to clickers using student ID number. Be ready to review home learning when timer goes off. Don't forget to write your home learning in your agenda page 131A.

6 Push and Pulls A force is a push or pull that acts on an object and is measured in newtons (N). Gravity Earth’s gravity pulls objects toward its center, for example gravity is what keeps satellites in orbit around Earth or apples falling from trees. An objects weight is the amount of gravitational force between it and Earth, gravitational forces decrease the higher you go from Earth’s surface. A pendulum swings because of gravity, when it swings upward the force of gravity slows its upward path and pulls it back down.

7 Magnetism and Electricity Magnetism is a force that pushes and pulls other objects and has two poles (North and South), which opposite poles attract and same poles repel or push away. Electric forces push and pull between objects with electrical charges, negative when they gain electrons and positive when they lose electrons, this happens when objects are rubbed together.

8 Gravity, Magnetism and Electricity Gravity, electricity and magnetism can act on an object without touching it. Magnetism and electricity can be blocked using some materials and can push or pull. Gravity cannot be blocked and is only a pull.

9 Friction Friction is force that results when two objects rub together that can slow them down or keep them from moving. Work and Power BRAIN POP: Work
