4 Equipment for Class  Pencils and colouring pencils  Blue ink handwriting pen  Glue Stick  30cm ruler  Pencil sharpener  Scissors  Rubber  It would be very helpful to name items where possible so we can return them to their owner when they are misplaced.

6 Assessment and Tests Initial assessments in Autumn Term Writing assessment - support individual targets and next steps Spelling assessment – help support spelling groups Reading assessment – help support reading groups Ongoing assessments during the year for reading writing and maths – formative assessments and summative assessments End of year assessments – summative assessments (Dates to be confirmed.)

7 Numeracy There will be 4 groups taught by class teachers and Mr Davies. Homework Given out Monday for Wednesday and Thursday for Friday. Literacy There will be 4 groups taught by class teachers and Mrs Davies. Homework Given out Tuesday back on Thursday and Friday back for Monday. There will be a mixture of spelling, writing and language activities given for homework.

8 PE and Games Outdoor Games - Tuesday Trainers (which might get muddy), PE t-shirt, shorts, jumper, jogging trousers, cagoule for winter, sun hat for summer. Indoor PE House t-shirt, shorts, trainers. 6WB - Wednesday 6R - Friday 6G - Friday Please try to make sure your child has their kit in school at all times. Earrings must be taken out or taped.

10 Tips on Homework  Children should work in a quiet area to complete their homework.  30 mins of good concentration.  Wednesday - independent study. children will be set a project to complete.  Any problems please drop a note to us  Homework club – Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.

11 Reading with understanding  Decoding = reading words accurately  Comprehension = knowing what words mean  Inference = reading beyond the text for implied meaning  (e.g. ‘With tears dripping down her cheeks, Emma ran out of the room…’) So how was Emma feeling?

12 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) Spelling lists will be given out every week to learn for the following week or they will be given some GPS activity. Spellings will follow a weekly spelling pattern, differentiated for different groups. Children will be expected to use the words from their list in some spelling sentences as directed in the homework task. Daily spelling practice for a short while is more effective than ‘cramming’.

14 Secondary Transfer PESE (11+) results 14th October online after 4pm, 15th October by post SCAF completed by 31st October – preferred online this year, we will need to see confirmation of this. If you applied online you will be emailed on 1st March 2015 after 4pm to tell you which school you have been offered. You can also log in after 5pm on 1st March 2015 to view your offer online.log in If you applied by post you will be sent your offer by first class post on 1st March 2015.
