2 Important Information
Students come into class at 7:55 Change of release in writing or call office prior to 2:00. You may not or call the teacher with a change of dismissal. First grade lunch is at 11:00. If you would like to eat lunch with your child please sign in at the office. You may wait in the cafeteria for your child’s class to come to lunch.

3 Attendance Students are tardy at 8:20
Students must be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings. If students are still eating breakfast, or in the hallway, they are marked tardy. After 4 tardies a note is sent home. After 5, conduct grade will be lowered one letter. After 9, and every one after that, students will serve a detention. For absences to be excused the school must receive a note explaining the nature of the absence.

4 Backpack and Folders Backpack - no wheels
Daily Folder – signed and cleaned out daily. Tuesday Folder – cleaned out and returned on Wednesday Lunch Money – labeled in envelope or baggy Notes to teacher – staple, tape or paperclip to folder Toys are not allowed at school unless notified by the teacher for a special assignment or prize. Will be confiscated until parent comes to pick up, or the end of the year.

5 Students bring home a BLUE folder each night for the daily behavior
Students bring home a BLUE folder each night for the daily behavior. Please make sure to look at this and sign it. This is also where they can keep their homework. Orange folders are taken home each Tuesday. Please take out papers, sign and return on Wednesday.

6 Power Squares Neon Green - Super Day! Your child was a great example for others! Green - Good Day. Your child made good choices. Yellow - Ok Day Orange - Your child had difficulty making good choices today. Red – Please have a serious talk/consequence with your child about their behavior Purple - Office Referral Intentional threats or injury to another child = immediate visit with principal. All students received one or more warnings before receiving the time-out. Students also lose Bobcat bucks as a consequence and secondary warning, before changing their color.

7 Bobcat Bucks and Consequences
I use Bobcat Bucks as positive reinforcement Students visit the Class Store on Fridays Can save or spend their money Green - $ 2 Yellow - $1 and 5 minutes off Recess Orange - $ 0 Silent Lunch and 5 minutes off Recess Red – Pay $1 Silent Lunch and 10 minutes off Recess Neon Green - $ 3 Students will serve their consequence the following day of school. Students also receive extra Bobcat Bucks when they make good choices, participate or follow directions in class. Students lose Bobcat Bucks if they do not follow directions, are unkind, or make a bad choice.

8 Specials Monday – PE and Art Tuesday – Music Wednesday – PE
Thursday – Music Friday - PE PE shoes on PE days.

9 Library Day is Thursday

10 1st Grade Grading System
This will be your child’s first year to receive an actual grade on their report card. Your child will receive at least one grade a week in Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Homework is not graded, but will affect their conduct. Progress Reports will be sent home once during a nine week period at approximately the 5 week point.

11 Grading Guidelines A 100-90 B 89-80 C 75-79 D 74-70 F below 70
Major and minor grades each make up 50% of the report card grade. Major grades with a grade below an 80 will be retaught and retested. The student will receive the higher of the two grades. Students may redo any failing minor grades at the discretion of the PLC and will receive the higher of the two grades

If complete all 5 stations that week, they get Fun Friday If a student misses stations due to academic pullout or sickness, they will not be accountable for that station. Social Studies grade =95 =  =75 5 stations 3-4 stations or less stations Not graded for “right” or “wrong”, but for completion based on student’s ability Note was sent home explaining in more detail.

13 Homework… is written in the agenda book. can affect your conduct.
is always a reinforcement of something taught in class. should take no longer than 20 minutes. Reading Log should be done EVERY night. Start at 10 minutes but will progress to 20 minutes each night

15 Writing Really focusing on writing this year.
Students are working on 5 page books Each student develops at their own pace. Teacher conferences with child at least once a week Gives them suggestions to help improve their writing. Right now our books are pretty simple, but by the end of the year, they should be complex Using attributes from books and authors we have read and studied throughout the year.

16 Spelling Program provided by the district.
Practice activities take place during the week. Friday’s test includes the 6 words on the list, plus 4 application words, plus 4 challenging bonus words worth 1 point each. Highest grade possible is a 104. Spelling Tests will begin 2nd 9 weeks Take test on Thursday Get 100 or greater, play dough on Friday! If less than 100, will retake on Friday.

18 Birthdays Please handle birthday invitations at home.
We can let children pass out invitations only if they include all the boys, all the girls, or all the children. If you join the PTO you will receive a directory of the children in our class and the phone numbers of the families that have released them. Treats can be ordered through food services for the whole class! No cupcakes or food treats of any kind throughout the year. Goes for Holiday bags or Valentine’s treats too. Only non-edible items.

19 Call for GT Referrals The GT referral window for K-11 is August 25th- September 26th. If you would like to refer your child for Klein’s Gifted and Talented Program, please stop by your school and pick up a referral packet. Referral packets are available in the front office. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our counselor, Meghan Blakey at For more information you may also visit the KISD website. Click Departments>Advanced Academics>Gifted and Talented Referral packets must be turned in to the counselor/front office by Friday, September 26th.

20 Other Important Information
Medication – sent to the office by a parent, not with your child. Jackets for cold weather and light jacket for classroom.
