CLAUSES What is an independent clause? an independent clause expresses a complete thought and can stand alone in a sentence it is also known as a “main clause”

CLAUSES What is the difference between an independent clause and a sentence? An independent clause that stands alone is referred to as a sentence. When it has a clause attached to it, it is called an independent clause.

CLAUSES What is a subordinate clause? A subordinate clause does not express a complete thought It cannot stand alone It also known as a “dependent clause” It depends on the rest of the sentence to support it

7 Independent and Subordinate Clauses
When you study the Revolutionary War, you may learn about the adventures of a woman known as Molly Pitcher. Molly, whose real name is believed to have been Mary Ludwig, was the daughter of farmers. Although she was born in New Jersey, she moved to Pennsylvania. There she married John Hays, who was a barber. Hays joined the colonial army when the Revolution began.

20 Adverb Clauses As soon as the ground softens in the spring, plant your garden. Some seeds take more time to sprout than other do. 3. If you want to grow morning glories, start the seeds under lights. 4. When the seeds sprout, you can transplant them into the garden 5. Plant them near a fence or a wall so that the plants can climb.
