4 World Problems – p. 42 Discussion Questions:  Which three problems concern you the most?  What will happen if these problems aren’t solved?  What are some things that you can do to help? Useful Expressions: One thing to do about it is…We should try… Another way to help is…What do you think about…? The best thing to do is…Would… help the situation? Why don’t we… ?If we did… what do you think would happen?

9 Things You Can Do Talk to each other about these issues. Ask peers and professors about these problems. Research and support organizations and programs that help people affected by drugs, violence, homelessness, poverty, etc. Research and support organizations that provide education about environmental problems. Talk to your boss or company about the issues that concern you – see if they support charities, etc.

11 Notes on Presentations Must be 7-8 minutes long. Must have an introduction and a conclusion. Choose one of these topics:  Lesson 3: Love and Marriage  Unit 5: Crossing Cultures  Caedman’s Call song “This World”  Joni Mitchell’s song “Big Yellow Taxi”  Unit 7: Environmental Issues Use phrases and expressions from at least three different lessons in your presentation. BE CREATIVE!!! Do not copy from any other source! You MUST give Miss Voortman a copy of your script at the beginning of class!!

12 Final Presentations June 8 th – Final Presentations  I expect exceptional work  Be prepared to complete questions for other groups June 13 th – Some extra activities  Be prepared to talk about stories from your life  Complete Class Evaluations  Possibly your last chance to practice English in a classroom…for free
