2 Types of Wounds-Abrasion This is when you skin your knee or elbow Wash with soap and water Hydrogen peroxide Neosporin Cover with Band-Aid

3 Wounds-Laceration This is when sometime hits you and rips the skin apart. May need stitches Control bleeding

4 Stitches May need stitches if Very deep Over 1/2 inch long Sides wont stay together Any animal bite

5 Controlling Bleeding Use a dressing Put over cut and squeeze Wrap with roller gauze Add more dressing if needed but do not remove old

6 Infections Happen when bacteria are not cleaned from wound RED and WARM to touch May have pus that is white, yellow or green Darker the color, worse the infection ….gangrene Clean with warm soapy water Cover with Neosporin or other TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT Cover with Band-Aid, Check daily

7 Burns The word to remember is…….. COOL and COVER Run cool water over it and cover with LOOSE bandage

8 Sunburn First Degree Burn Your skin burns even after you get out of the sun Wet towel or shirt to pull heat out of skin. No lotions or oil

9 Bloody Noses Lean forward Pinch nose Ice to back of head Don’t stuff anything up nose

10 Tooth Knocked out Knocked out tooth. Find tooth Place in bag. Put bag on ice or in cool water. Also can put tooth in milk.

13 Black widow Spider Most spider bites won’t hurt you. But beware of Black Widow with Red Hour Glass on Stomach

14 Brown Recluse Spider Most dangerous spider in area. See violin on back? See Dr immediately. Causes flesh to die.

23 Choking 5 back blows 5 Abdominal Thrusts Up and In Push between naval and top of “V” of rib

24 Heat Illness Body stays cool be sweating. When runs out of water it can’t sweat and begins to heat up. This is deadly Red and sweaty Then pale and dry Then red and dry

25 Heat Illness What to do Get friend in shade Take of shoes, hat, jacket or sweatshirt Pour water over then Fan Sip cool water Call 911 PREVENTION Drinks lots of WATER on hot days Stay away from caffeine drinks like Monsters, Red Bull, Full Throttle, sodas an ice teas. They make you more thirsty

26 Cold Illness Hypothermia usually happens when wet, cold and windy Shivers and shake Gets very clumsy and confused Very sleepy Frostbite (Black on nose and ears)

27 Cold Illness What to do Get wet clothes off and dry clothes on Wrap in blanket Sip warm drink Get in warm room or car Prevention Dress Appropriately Stay Dry. Wear hat and shoes 85% of body heat is lost from head and feet
