2  Erikson felt that the need for social approval was very important.  Studied psychosocial development- An individual’s goal is to satisfy social needs.  Development is a lifelong interactive process between people.

3  During the stages of life, Erikson believed that a person may develop more strongly in one way or another depending on how people respond to his or her efforts.

4  A 2 year old is delighted with his newfound ability to walk and his new abilities to use words and ask questions.  The fact that he has acquired these abilities adds to his self-esteem, and he is eager to use them.  The adults around him applaud his efforts, he begins to develop autonomy or independence.  But if the adults around him ignore his efforts, the child may begin to doubt his efforts.

18  The class will be divided into eight groups.  Each group will be assigned a specific Erikson stage.  The goal of the class is to work together in order to develop one character and to create a comic book based on this character’s life.  Each group will be responsible for detailing the conflict and outcome in their assigned stage in comic book fashion (at least 5 pages).  The class must work with each other to ensure that similar conflicts do not occur in different stages and that there is a balance of outcomes. Remember that outcomes in previous stages will impact later stages.  In conclusion the class will compile each group’s task in order to produce a finished comic book.  Grading: Class Effort-Individual Effort- Physical Comic Book Presentation- Story (conflict/outcome)  Worth 60 points
