2 Get to know Mrs. Tarver

3 My experience This is my 4 th year teaching. All years have been in Bibb County. I have taught 4 th and 5 th grades math and science. Most recently I was the Director of Sylvan Learning Centers in Macon and Warner Robins, GA. My background I grew up in Macon, GA. I attended Tattnall Square Academy from Pre-K to 12 th grade. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Macon State College. I received my Master’s degree in Middle Grades Math from Georgia College and State University. My Experiences and Background

4 My Family My husband’s name is Matt. We have been married two years. Because we do not have any children yet, our “children” are furry and have four legs. Reid is 3 years old and Molly is 3 months old.

5 My Family My mom and dad live in Forsyth, GA. My mom’s name is Gail. She is retired and enjoys interior decorating. My dad’s name is Charlie. He is also retired and now is a professional BBQ cooker. I have a twin brother who is also my next door neighbor. His name is Christopher. He works downtown managing Bearfoot Tavern.

6 My Friends I have the two best friends anyone could ask for. Stephanie and I have been friends since 7 th grade, which makes 15 years. She lives in Macon and works for a medical billing company. Kelly and I have been friends for 6 years. She works at Sylvan Learning Center. Her husband’s name is Jonathan and he is a fireman. Their daughter’s name is Karlie.

8 Pair and Share Your partner will be the person next to you. You will introduce your partner to the class. You should find out: Their name Did they go to Miller last year? If no, where did they go? Something unique about them. You will have 3 minutes. Go!

9 What do you need to know and have to be successful in 7 th grade?

10 Grading Scale Students will explore math through a variety of projects, class work, writing assignments including journals, homework, quizzes, and unit exams. Grades will be assigned according to the grading policy in the Miller handbook. The following criteria will be assessed: 1.Classwork50% 2.Performance Based Assessments (Test/Task)40% 3.Homework10% TOTAL100% NOTE: Weekly performance assessments and quizzes will be given.

11 Classroom Expectations 1.Be in your assigned seat and begin warm up. 2.Do class work and homework daily; show your work. 3.Keep Interactive notebook current and organized. 4.Be an active learner. 5.Learn to communicate Math effectively through writing and speaking. 6.Remain seated at all times and raise your hand to speak. 7.Be respectful. 8.Be honest.

14 Group Discussions With the people at your table, come up with definitions for the words respect and disrespect. Discuss: When is it easy to treat with someone with respect? When is it difficult? Do all people deserve to be treated with respect in this classroom? What happens if someone has “dissed” you and made you angry? What if they are from a different country? What is they have a different religion from you? What is they dress differently than you?

22 Group Game time! Digit Guessing Game With your table group- one person is the keeper of the mystery number, all others are the guessers. Number has 3 digits. It can not begin with 0. No digits repeat. What number am I thinking of? I will tell you the digits correct and it they are in the correct place value.
