2 Climate Trends in America Individual weather events cannot always be attributed to climate change. Extreme weather events are being influenced in magnitude or frequency by changes in climate. Increase in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures Greater number of heavy downpours Hurricanes – intensity, frequency and duration of hurricanes have increased Increase in frequency and intensity of winter storms Sea-level rise

3 3 Climate Resilience Fund $1 Billion Requested Invest in research and unlock data and information to better understand the projected impacts of climate change and how we can better prepare our communities and infrastructure. Help communities plan and prepare for the impacts of climate change and encourage local measures to reduce future risk. Fund breakthrough technologies and resilient infrastructure that will make us more resilient in the face of changing climate.

4 4 Climate Action Plan Federal agencies to identify and remove barriers to making climate- resilient investments. Development of Disaster Resilience Framework and Model Resilience Guidelines. Federal Agency Sustainability Performance Plans and Climate Adaptation plans developed.

5 5 Executive Order 13653 Establishes the Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience to advise the Administration on how the Federal Government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide that are dealing with the impacts of climate change. Providing Information, Data, and Tools for Climate Change Preparedness and Resilience.  Instructs agencies to work together to develop and provide authoritative, easily accessible, usable, and timely data, information, and decision-support tools on climate preparedness and resilience.  Climate Data Initiative  Climate Resilience Toolkit Federal Agency Plans

6 6 Federal Flood Risk Management Standard Apply consistent flood elevation / resiliency standards for federally- funded projects which plan, design, construct, operate, repair or rehabilitate structures, facilities and infrastructure.

7 7 Climate Data Initiative and Toolkit (www.climate.data.gov) Providing public access to the Federal Government’s climate data. o Fueling private sector innovation o Levering Data.Gov Tools, training and subject matter expertise to help people manage their climate-related risks & opportunities.
