2 Objectives Content Students will be able to identify common and proper nouns. Language Students will be able to use common nouns and proper nouns in a sentence.

3 Common Nouns A word that names ANY person, place, or thing.
Rule: We do not capitalize common nouns - unless they are at the beginning of the sentence.

4 Examples of common nouns
house cat river

5 Proper Nouns Proper nouns are words that name a PARTICULAR person, place, thing, event, or idea. Rule: We always capitalize proper nouns.

New York Shaq Super Bowl

7 Use your white boards to fill in the blanks to the following sentences with a common or proper noun. Remember to capitalize the proper nouns.
