What is Communication? Communication: the process of sending and receiving messages to achieve understanding. Answer this question on your fill in notes: “What does communication mean to me?”

What is Communication? Speech Communication: the transmission of information or ideas by means of vocalized words.

What is Communication? Intrapersonal communication: an inward talking to oneself –EXAMPLES: Thinking through your math problem as you do it Deciding what you are going to eat while reading the menu Having a conversation with yourself in your mind (This is ABSOLUTELY normal!)

What is Communication? Interpersonal communication: transmission of messages between two or more people. –EXAMPLES: Texting with your best friend Rolling your eyes at your mom Talking with a group of classmates

What are the benefits of Speech Communication? You learn by communicating. –EXAMPLES: Teachers lecturing Parents instructing Students asking questions These all require SPEECH!
