More than 27,000 society affiliates. 329 sections. 1,860 chapters. More than 1,789 student branches in 80 countries. Over 483 student branch chapters. More than 390 affinity groups. 38 societies and 7 technical councils. Close to 2 million documents in the IEEE/IET Electronic Library. Publishes a total of 144 transactions, journals and magazines. Sponsors more than 900 conferences each year. The IEEE Standards Association has 1300 active standards with 400 in development. 2

Two basic thrusts: – Advocacy – Direct and Grassroots lobbying on legislation of interest to our membership – Education – Informing policy-makers, our members, and the public on public policy issues, the policy implications of technology, and issues affecting the profession. 23
