1 Digital Image Processing: Bernd Girod, © 2013-2014 Stanford University -- Project Proposals 1 EE368/CS232 Final Project Develop, implement and test/demonstrate image processing algorithm(s) May or may not use an Android device Important dates Project proposal due: February 10, 11:59 p.m. Project presentation: Poster session, March 12, 4-6 p.m. Submission of written report and source code: March 17, 11:59 p.m. Posters, reports & source code will be posted online Project grade based on Technical quality, significance, and originality 50% Written report 25% Poster/demo 25%

2 Digital Image Processing: Bernd Girod, © 2013-2014 Stanford University -- Project Proposals 2 Project proposal Written project proposal in pdf format Submit by email to ee368-win1314-staff@lists.stanford.edu Submit early for a head start, but no later than deadline Proposal must contain: Title Name(s) and email address(es) of the student(s) Description of the goals of the project and the work to be carried out (200-400 words) 3+ references Indication whether you will use an Android device If proposal is not acceptable, a revision will be requested Approved proposals will be posted online

3 Digital Image Processing: Bernd Girod, © 2013-2014 Stanford University -- Project Proposals 3 Project group and topic Groups of 2-3 students strongly encouraged Groups > 3 need special permission: provide compelling reason and work plan Use our Google Doc spreadsheet and Piazza to look for project partners – indicate general direction of interest Check out past proposals and projects in Final Projects section of class website Check journals and conference proceedings for ideas, e.g., IEEE Transactions on Image Processing IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) Do not be overly ambitious in your project goals!

4 Digital Image Processing: Bernd Girod, © 2013-2014 Stanford University -- Project Proposals 4 If you really ARE ambitious … Brown Institute for Media Innovation (joint with Columbia University, NYC) Magic Grants: support for a small team of students to demonstrate the relevance and viability of an original idea by implementing a prototype or creating an innovative media product Teams of at least 2 students apply (or faculty on their behalf) Funding up to $150K per project for AY 2014/15 (up to $300K for bicoastal) Proposals due: March 23, finalist presentations at Stanford: April 15 Details: http://brown.stanford.edu/propose
