7. Beliefs Beliefs are statements of convictions and values. The planning team develops statements. They address: The nature of children The nature of learning The nature of society The nature of the educational task The nature of the educational process

8. Development of Key Findings Key findings are statements relating the most important findings from the environmental scans. The planning team develops the key findings. The external and internal environmental scans are analyzed to determine a set of findings that provide the impetus for development of the strategic plan.

9. Development of Mission Statement The mission statement is a statement that relates the purpose for which a school district exists and the primary function it performs. The planning team develops the mission statement by responding to the following questions: What is the purpose of the school district? Whom does the district serve? How will the district fulfill its purpose?

10. Development of Vision Statement The vision statement is a declaration of where the school district will be and what it will look like in pursuit of its mission and implementation of its strategic plan in the future

11. Review Board of Education, School System Staff, and Community Advisory Committee Review and Respond to Key Findings,, Belief Statements, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement

Goals, Objectives, Strategies The development of Goals, Objectives, and Strategies by the Planning Team Goals are broad statements of directions, purpose, or intent without relationship to time Objectives are statements of desired outcomes that specify both quantity of output and the time frame for accomplishment Strategies are statements that describe approaches to be used to achieve strategic objectives
