2 Attendance Attendance is so important. Our fifth grade is active with hands-on activities.

3 Arrival/Dismissal Arrival 7:45 ( students are sent to rooms at 7:45) Dismissal 3:20

4 Tardies Students are marked tardy at 8:05. So much is accomplished between 7:50 and 8:05! Students feel like they are behind if they’re not on- time… it just makes their day go nicer. We also leave for specials at 8:05.

5 Early Dismissal Dismissal time: 12:00 pm Lunch is served!

6 Parent Conferences Wed/Thurs October 28 th, 29 th Conference with homeroom teacher

7 Dress Code Boys -baggie pants -sleeveless shirts -earrings Girls -shorts(fingertip) -shirts (length) -three finger rule -shoes - no makeup or unsafe jewelry

8 Cell Phone Use Cell phones must be turned off and left in backpacks. Cell phones used will be turned into office.

9 Grades A 90-100 B 80-89 C 75-79 D 70-74

10 Progress Reports First Progress Report (Week of Sept 21st) Everyone will get a progress report the 1 st nine weeks

11 First Report Card 1 st nine weeks ends on Oct. 30th

12 Manners Banquet Friday, Oct. 16 Time to be announced Students dress nicely! We need parents to be servers. This is not a DATE! We will focus on manners and etiquette..

13 Patriot’s Day November 18 th or 19 th They will need a colonial outfit-feel free to use things from home and make outfit

14 Winter Party Dec 18 In Cafeteria Parents Volunteer

15 Friendship Party February 14 In Cafeteria Parent Volunteers

16 Field Trips Possible fall field trip Lake Sheldon (Spring) BizTown (April) *Parent training required prior to field trip for chaperones Parents drive separately.

17 Book and a Bite Student/Parent Book Club Mondays 6:30 First one Oct. 19 th - A Year Down Yonder Books are paired with a food from the story. The ‘bite’ is pot luck. Books are coming!!! We are SO excited for this!!

20 Reading Interactive Read Aloud-reading lesson Independent Reading-about 40 minutes each day with a written response, responses will be part of grades Small groups during independent reading Writing Word Study Reading tutoring begins October, by invitation only STAAR Test, March 30 th (SSI)

21 Reading Homework Due on Fridays At least 100 minutes 3 responses, one is assigned that is aligned with current lessons

24 Science Interactive notebook Hands-on in the lab STAAR test, May 11 th

26 Math Class Daily Instruction includes the use of Interactive Student Notebook, direct teaching, group work, and independent work Knowing multiplication facts rotely is necessary for fifth grade success (Xmath, websites, apps, and First in Math) Students must be able to draw pictures or interprets models of all operations, fractions and decimals (area models, strip diagrams) STAAR Test, March 29 th (SSI)

27 Interactive Notebook ● You will make your own “textbook” over the year in the form of an Interactive Notebook. ● This notebook will contain the following: ● Table of Contents ● Smart Goal for each unit with a reflection piece ● Notes ● Assignments ● You are responsible for keeping your notebook organized and updated. ● There will be random checks during the year.
