3 Purpose of each expert seminar Discuss common issues and concerns around the quality of teaching of mathematics and the provision of professional development for teachers of mathematics Discuss how the needs of ‘lifelong professional learning’ are supported by existing provision and what more should be done to make this a reality Share ways in which the NCETM can support strategic partners in the raising of quality of teaching and in the provision of professional development Strengthen and extend the impact of existing networks and partnerships Share current regional developments and explore how these might be developed to impact nationally, and in other regions, including the potential for working across boundaries

7 The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics “ Working collaboratively to enhance mathematics teaching” Our aims: Improve the quality and availability of professional development for all teachers of mathematics Coordinate existing mathematics networks and organisations to offer teachers easy access to the support, research and resources available Establish a culture of collaborative working to encourage a sharing of experience and expertise
