1 Fourth Grade ACADEMIC UIL EVENTS

2 This contest involves the study of paintings. In Part A students will identify the names of 15 selected artists and titles of pictures selected randomly by the director from the official list of 40 pictures. In Part B students will answer of 30 questions about art history and art elements characteristic of the 40 art selections. ART

3 Students in a chess puzzle contest receive a paper-and-pencil test that includes a series of chess boards with pieces in particular positions. Students will analyze the information and choose possible moves for each diagram. CHESS PUZZLE

4 Students will listen to approximately 20 seconds of up to 20 musical selections. Students will identify the name of the major work, selection and the name of the composer. Spelling and punctuation count. MUSIC MEMORY

5 Students will be given a 10-minute, fill-in-the-blank math test. They must complete it without doing calculations on paper or on a calculator. Erasures and mark-outs are not permitted. Math concepts covered include, but are not limited to: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, proportions, and use of mathematic notation. NUMBER SENSE

6 ORAL READING Students will choose a selection of poetry. They will have 6 minutes to read it to the judges. Students are encouraged to add emphasis to their performance.

7 Students will be given two writing prompts. They will choose one of the prompts and respond to it. READY WRITING

8 Students will write down words given by the pronouncer. The contest consists of 50 words. SPELLING
