9 Council on Competitiveness HPC Initiative Project Components Advisory Committee  Public/private sector executives to provide leadership and guidance to project.  Meets annually. Annual private sector user survey and interviews  Results will identify factors that encourage/inhibit HPC use; future applications and compute needs; opportunities for public/private sector partnership, etc. Continued

10 Council on Competitiveness HPC Initiative Project Components Industry “grand challenge” case studies  Identify: Industry-specific challenges that could make a significant contribution to company/industry/national productivity and competitiveness if more computational capability could be made available to solve them.  Address: Barriers to accessing/applying HPC tools Potential ROI to company/industry/country if challenges can be solved. Continued

11 Council on Competitiveness HPC Initiative Industry sector workshops  Use grand challenge reports/survey results as framework to identify sector-specific needs and trends related to the application of HPC. Economic assessment scoping paper  Identify risk-reward analysis the private sector employs when considering an investment in HPC  Offer methodology for companies to use to measure bottom-line return if not doing so now Project Components Continued

12 Council on Competitiveness HPC Initiative Annual HPC users conference  DARPA-Council co-sponsored  Share findings from the case studies, survey and interviews, to identify cross-cutting sectoral needs; assess the impact of HPC on industry productivity. Congressional Briefings  Educational outreach to Congress via Council- sponsored programs: monthly Tech Forum (Senate) and Breakfast Bytes (House) and annual senior staff Forum Retreat.
