9 Notes from discussion of Question #1: What is the role of Barrier Removal in Social Marketing? If you want to change the behavior for social good you have to use social marketing, but there are barriers to action and in order to change people’s behavior you have to remove them

Capacitate the community managers of MPA Deputize fish wardens Tuberculosis program – posters, etc. – awareness if TB, then local clinics to help people change behavior, go to doctor straight away after symptoms Disaster relief – Disaster risk management – change planting of mangroves, train people how to protect families, relocation of settlements, - BR is capacitating of government employees, equipment, flashlights, etc. trucks.

The goal is for the Community MPA to become a co-managed MPA that is effective and achieves specific conservation and fisheries results Module 2, Unit 5, Session 4
