1 Bringing knowledge to bear … Supporting primary care and public health librarians

2 National Library for Health The vision for the National Library for Health is of a highly integrated network based service, delivering an efficient, personalised library and information service to clinicians and patients.

3 Within 5 years 1. More staff will use an NHS library than currently. 2. NHS libraries will support patients and carers. 3. Libraries will regularly undertake user needs and user satisfaction surveys. 4. There will be greater use of shared services between libraries. 5. Librarians will spend more time providing professional services to users (for example working on wards as clinical librarians) and less time on administrative work (cataloguing books; processing inter library loans for example).

4 Within 5 years 6. Library systems and services will be integrated with the National Programme for IT. 7. There will be greater integration with HE, FE, independent and other health care libraries. 8. Library expenditure will have increased, but it will be demonstrably more cost effective.
