Line- a mark on a page, longer than it is wide.

Shape- is an area enclosed by a Line.

Value- the lightness or darkness of a surface.

Texture- the way something feels, or looks like it would feel

Color- is seen by the way light reflects off a surface.

Complementary A pair of two opposite colors on the color wheel. This is a dynamic scheme that offers a nice contrast and tension.

Monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones and shades) of a single hue.

Form- Forms are 3-Dimensional. They occupy space or give the illusion that they occupy the space.

Space- is the illusion of objects having depth on the 2-dimensional surface. Positive Space Negative Space

Balance is a sense of stability in the body of work.

Repetition- repeating elements

Contrast- the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.)

Emphasis- The area of interest in an artwork (created by contrast, scale, placement, etc)

Unity- the feeling that everything in the work of art works together and looks like it fits.
