2 What is MESA? 0 MESA stands for Math Engineering Science Achievement. 0 MESA is a program and community that provides support services to underrepresented, first generation college students with a financial hardship. The program prepares these students to transfer to a 4- year institution into fields such as Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, PreMed, Pre- Dentistry, Pre-Pharmacy, and Physics. 0 CoA is the ONLY Peralta College offering this program.

3 What does MESA Offer? MESA services are designed to help students be successful in college, enjoy college and transfer to 4-year universities. Our services include:  MESA Study Center (Atlantic 125): Enjoy a study center, equipped with computers, printers, etc. This will be open M-Th 8 am – 7 pm & F 8 am – 3 pm  Tutoring: Take advantage of drop-in tutoring offered M-Th (hours vary).

4 0 Field trips: Join us for trips to local universities and companies. 0 Scholarships: Our members can apply for exclusive MESA scholarship opportunities. 0 Career events: We provide guest speakers, resume workshops, mock interviews, etc. 0 Networking: Participate in opportunities to network with other MESA students from local colleges. 0 And more! Leadership retreats, Science fairs, research opportunities, Pre-Med Conference… 0 In addition MESA students receive first consideration for MESA office positions.

5 Who is Eligible? If you can check off the following criteria, you are eligible! 0 MAJOR: You have chosen to major in a Math, Engineering or Science related field. Typical majors include: Math, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc. 0 TRANSFER: You plan to transfer to a four-year university to earn a bachelor’s degree. 0 STATUS: You are a US citizen, permanent resident, or in the process of obtaining a green card.

6 0 FIRST IN FAMILY: Neither you nor your parents have a BS/BA. 0 FINANCIAL HARDSHIP (SELECT ONE): You are eligible for financial aid (or the BOGW or Pell Grants) OR You are eligible for EOP&S, CalWORKs, OR You are not 25 yet, but you live on your own; OR you feel you have a special situation. 0 Math: Enrolled in or have completed Math 201 – elementary Algebra. 0 ENROLLMENT: Enrolled in 6.0 units or more at CoA.
