7. Writing Now it is time to write your essay – Make sure it is in MLA format First page has your name, my name, Honors American History, and the date Your last name and the page number on the top right Double spaced

Introduction Start with an introductory paragraph – First sentence should be a hook – Next sentence or two should put your essay into historical context – Next sentence should be your overall thesis (make sure it answers the question) – Finish by outlining what you will be talking about to prove your thesis (your body paragraphs)

Body Paragraphs You need three body paragraphs covering domestic issues, foreign policy issues, and Watergate – Each body paragraph should begin and end with a transition sentence Should contain the subthesis for that paragraph Should also somehow connect that paragraph with the overall topic, the previous paragraph, or the next paragraph – Each body paragraph needs three main ideas, supporting evidence for each main idea, and in-text citations for each piece of evidence – Each body paragraph needs information from AT LEAST two sources

10. Conclusion End your essay with a concluding paragraph – Restate your thesis in one sentence – Summarize your body paragraphs in 1-3 sentences – Expand on your topic in one sentence

11. Works Cited Your Works Cited needs to be a separate page attached to the end of your essay – Needs to contain the full MLA citation for each source used in your paper – Citations should be in alphabetical order – Use hanging indents for each citation – Citations should be single spaced with an extra space in between each citation

12. Wrapping Up Once you have finished you essay, use the checklist provided to make sure that it is complete – I will be using something very similar to grade your essays – I prefer typed but do not require it Final Drafts are due on Monday, 3/17
