1 Mrs. Tarabek’s Third- Grade Class Welcome, students!

2 Welcome to Third Grade!  I will introduce you to third grade and to our classroom.  If you have any questions please let me know.

3 All About Me  My background  I grew up in Aiken, South Carolina.  I attended the University of South Carolina at the Aiken campus.  My experience  I’ve been teaching for 9 years.  I have also taught kindergarten, first, second, and 6 th -8 th grades,but third is my favorite.

4 My Family  My husband  Skip  My children  daughters, Sommer and Kaleigh  Our pet  Buddy

5 My Goals  To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to fourth grade.  To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.  To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

6 Class Subjects  The subjects we cover during third grade are:  Reading  Writing  Math  Social studies  Science

7 Reading  We will read and learn about four types of literary texts this year: fiction, literary nonfiction, poetry, and drama.  Do you know in which category you would find a newspaper?

8 Writing  We will begin to write for a variety of purposes and audiences.  As a writer you will learn to write both descriptive and narrative stories.  We will create written work that has a clear focus, sufficient detail and organization.

9 Math  You will understand the representation of whole numbers and fractional parts.  The addition and subtraction of whole numbers and fractional parts  You will learn methods of multiplying whole numbers.  You will also learn the relationships among multiplication, division,and related basic facts.

10 Science  Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Science.  This may take more than one slide.

11 Social Studies  Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Social Studies.  This may take more than one slide.

12 Music, Art and P.E.  Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Music and Art.  This may take more than one slide.

13 Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.  As a class family we will determine our class rules together and write a classroom constitution. We will be sure to include:  Being respectful, responsible, and ready.  Doing our personal best.

14 Homework  I will assign about 45 minutes of homework every night. This includes 20 minutes of reading.  Your homework should be written in your daily agenda and will be due each morning.

15 Tardiness  School starts at 7:35 A.M.  If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.

16 Behavior and Discipline  We have lots of fun field trips planned for this year!  We will attend two plays at the Children’s Theater as part of our reading units.  We will visit Maple Grove park and take water samples from the river as part of our science unit on the environment.  We will tour a bakery as part of our social studies unit on community.
