3 How do students qualify for Title I? Beginning of the year benchmarks 6 months or below Teacher Recommendations Consult with the classroom teacher if you have questions

4 Is my child at risk for retention? California State Law requires that parents be notified if a child is At Risk of Retention (ARR). Criteria for ARR varies per grade level, from 1 to 2 years below grade level. Your child’s teacher will discuss this with you at Parent Teacher Conferences.

10 Research on Family Involvement for Student Success Parent/ family involvement significantly contributes to improved student outcomes. Everyone benefits (students, parents, teachers, administrators, and communities) from family involvement. Parent/family involvement at home has more impact on children Home environment is the “primary” educational environment. More positive attitudes toward school Higher achievement, better attendance, and more homework completed consistently Greater knowledge of education programs and how schools work Knowledge of how to be more supportive of children Greater confidence about ways to help children learn Your Involvement will make an impact on your child’s success in school!

11 How Can You Help Your Child Excel Under the Common Core Standards? Establish routines and Schedules Organize for learning (Space, calendar) Develop Listening Skills Set Goals Ask Questions, not answers Connect with Teachers and School Make Homework time Tech Free (Distractions) Instill responsibility, compromise, and respect Keep Healthy habits Limit TV watching and Video Games time

12 How Can You Help Your Child Under the Common Core Standards? Reading Read and discuss books with your child on a daily basis Have your child make predictions before, during and after reading Encourage your child to make and discuss text connections Encourage your child to jot down questions that arise as he or she engages in the text

13 Math Find opportunities for your child to use math in daily life Have your child teach you the math lesson Have your child figure out the tax on your shopping trips Play Games: Go Fish, Race to 100, Monopoly Have your child figure out how to double or triple a recipe How Can You Help Your Child Excel Under the Common Core Standards?
