7 Activity  Talk for one minute to the person across from you. The topic is my favorite things about SM North so far this year.  The listener is to practice POOR listening skills (within reason).  How did you feel?

8 Activity  Switch speaker and listener. Talk for one minute about how to improve SM North.  The listener this time is to practice GOOD listing skills.

9 The best way to communicate??  It is a two way street NOT a one way street!!!

10 The 3 C’s 1.Clear 2.Concise 3.Correct --“I” Messages-- NOT “you” messages It is not what you said but how you said it

11 Techniques 1.Reflective Listening-Repeat! “I hear you saying…”

12 Techniques 2. Clarifying-Ask questions to clarify. “Are you needing help with…”

13 Techniques 3. Encouraging-Be positive. “It seems you have thought things through.”

14 Techniques 4. Empathizing-Be aware. “I bet that is frustrating.”

15 Body Language Eye contact, clothing, gestures, Rolling eyes, Posture, Head nodding, arms folded?, distance from person, "fidgeting” touching, etc. 7% words used, 38 % by voice quality, and 55 % by the nonverbal communication.
