2 What is a vegan? Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian do not use other animal products and by- products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

3 What they eat and don’t eat Examples: 1. Meatless hot dogs 2. Soy products 3. All basic fruits and vegetables 4. Bread Pudding, brownies, and pies 5. Veggie pizza or pizza with soy cheese They Don’t Eat 1. Basically anything that comes from an animal such as meat and diary.

4 The Risks of being a Vegan The challenges include getting enough protein and B vitamins in your diet. Iron and calcium are especially a concern for vegetarian woman and are more at risk then man of developing osteoporosis. People who are vegans are at a greater risk of heart disease.

5 The health benefits of being a Vegan Reduced saturated fats: By reducing the amount of diary products and meat you’ll reduce the amount of saturated fats. Blood Pressure: A diet rich in whole grains is beneficial to your health in many ways including lowering high blood pressure. Although people with a vegan diet have a greater risk of developing heart disease studies show that having a vegan diet can also reduce the risk.

6 Summary A vegan diet eliminates meat, diary products, and anything that comes from an animal. Both risks and benefits are associated with having a vegan diet.
