2 Written Rules Rules are designed to shape activities and ensure that everyone can participate on an equal basis Some rules are for safety reasons Some rules are in place to ensure fair play The above rules are sometimes referred to as formal rules and are found in a rule book (i.e written rules)

3 Equality rules In athletics the same size of shot putt is used for all competitors In Long Jump everyone takes off from the take off board.

4 Fairness In football you are not allowed trip your opponent. Handle the ball

5 Safety Rules In Rugby you are not allowed to tackle an opponent around the neck or dump them on the ground In basketball, to prevent injury, since you play in a small area there is no contact allowed.

6 Restricts Movement Some rules restrict movement, in football you cannot go beyond the second last defender until the ball is played In Rugby you can only receive a pass if you are behind the ball

7 Unwritten Rules Unwritten rules or Codes of Conduct are not found in rule books but are carried out by players as a sign of sportsmanship and good behaviour Shaking hands at the end of a game

8 In golf you Stand still while others are playing
