12 What are the Requirements for the Book? 1.At least 100 pages of regular font 2.Non-fiction 1.Grade-level appropriate (no juvenile section books) 2.General overview of the time period and events 3.Approved by the instructor 4.The minimum number of notecards is thirty (30) for Source #1; subsequent books: five (5) card minimum * Parent Signature on Book Form

13 What are the Requirements for the Journal Articles? 1.At least 3 pages in length. 2.Use an electronic web service such as Gale Student Reseacher – not simply from a generic web page. 3.Encyclopedias are NOT journal articles and may NOT be used. 4.Book Reviews are NOT journal articles and may NOT be used. 5.Do NOT use Google Scholar for this assignment. 6.The minimum number of notecards is five (5) per article.

14 What are the Requirements for the Websites? 1. The first two websites due must be secondary source in nature (NOT primary sources found on a website). 2. All websites must be from reliable sources – As a general rule, NO blogs or personal (amateur) web pages are allowed. 3. All web pages must identify the author by full name or be posted by a reputable organization (.gov &.edu sites; as well as other organizations such as the United Nations, National Organization for Women, National Rifle Association, etc.) 4. The minimum number of notecards is five (5) per website. Some prohibited sites: About.com, eNotes.com, Wikipedia

15 What are the Requirements for Historical Newspapers? 1.While most newspaper articles will be acceptable for the required 10 sources, you will need to select a newspaper article that will provide a minimum of five (5) quality note cards. If you wish to go beyond the 10 required sources you may use additional newspaper articles. Tip:  Try to find your newspaper articles as full text or PDFs online – it is easier to search the articles and read them. Newspapers on microfilm can be excellent sources, but are more challenging with which to work.

16 What are the Requirements for the Interview? 1.Everyone must conduct a personal interview. a.Use of published interviews conducted by someone else are prohibited for the required interview. However, you may use them for one of the choice sources. 2.The person interviewed must have either direct experience with the event or be a specialist on the topic. 3.All interview subjects and questions must be approved by the instructors in advance. 4.All interview subjects must be approved by parents. 5.All interviews must take place in a public place or in the presence of a parent. 6.Telephone and email interviews are acceptable when an in-person interview is not possible. a.All interview types require audio-visual proof (video-taped, Skype recording, email transcript, etc.) 7.Be sure to appropriately ask the person for permission to interview & record him/her.
