2 What is VoiceThread? VoiceThread is a tool that allows the user to combine imagery and personal commentary to create unique presentation projects. The address for VoiceThread is www.voicethread.com

3 Creating your VoiceThread account When using the VoiceThread website for the first time, you will need to register for a new account. Click here to register

4 Creating your VoiceThread account To register your new account, enter your first and last name, E-mail address, and password.

5 Creating a new VoiceThread project Once you’ve created your account, Click on the “Create” tab to create a new VoiceThread project.

6 Creating a new project part 1: Upload The first step in creating a new VoiceThread project is uploading the images that you want to use. There are 4 sources that you can upload images from: your computer Media sources (such as Flickr or Facebook directly from a website a webcamera

7 Creating a new project part 1: Upload Most of the time you will upload images that are saved on your computer. Browse and select the images that you want to upload into your VoiceThread project.

8 Creating a new project part 1: Upload Once you have selected the images that you want to use, you can re-arrange their order as needed. You can create a title for your project by clicking here

9 Adding your Avatar You can add your avatar to your project by clicking on this icon here… You will be prompted to upload the picture you want to use.

10 Creating a new project part 2: Comment The next step in the process of creating a VoiceThread project is to create a commentary for your pictures.

11 Creating a new project part 2: Comment Click on the “Comment” link located in the bottom right of the screen to submit a comment

12 Creating a new project part 2: Comment Notice that there are several ways in which a comment can be added to a VoiceThread project.

13 Creating a new project part 2: Comment There are 5 methods that you can contribute commentary to a VoiceThread project. Using your phone Using your webcam Using a microphone Using your keyboard Uploading an audio comment from your computer

14 Creating a new project part 2: Comment Most likely, you will not use a phone or webcam to submit commentary on a VoiceThread project, so it won’t be covered here. When using a microphone to submit commentary, you will be prompted to allow the program access to your microphone.

15 Creating a new project part 2: Comment After VoiceThread is allowed access to your microphone, VoiceThread will begin recording immediately. Press the “Stop Recording” button when you want to stop. You will prompted to either save or cancel the commentary.

16 Creating a new project part 2: Comment Once a commentary is saved, it can be played on the left side of the screen. The commentary can be deleted if you want.

17 Creating a new project part 2: Comment As mentioned earlier, you can also type in commentary for your VoiceThread project. The commentary box is located in the lower left of the screen. Highlight and delete the default text in order to enter your own commentary.

18 Creating a new project part 2: Comment Like so… When you are ready to save your project, click this arrow…

19 Creating a new project part 3: Share Don’t forget to give your project a title! You will have the option of copying and sharing the link of your project, inviting your friends to view it, sending the link in an e-mail, or embedding the project in a wiki or blog.

20 Creating a new project part 3: Share Click here in order to get the link if you wish to share your project. The URL address for your project is listed here…

21 Additional Sharing Options Along the bottom of the “Share” screen on the “Create” tab are the options: Playback Export Embed Publishing Options Options The “Export” option is only available in the “Professional” version of VoiceThread

22 Playback Options The “Playback Options” menu allows you to choose how you would like your VoiceThread project to be displayed. Note that some of the services are only available in the “Professional” version of VoiceThread (which is not free!)

23 Embedding your VoiceThread You are able to embed your VoiceThread project in a wide variety of social media outlets, such as the ones shown on the left… If you want to embed the project into a blog or wiki, the embed code is shown here. Copy and paste the embed code as needed!

24 Publishing Options The “Publishing Options” link provides the user with choices as to how they would like their project to be accessible, as well as whether comments from visitors are allowes.

25 The “MyVoice” Tab Once your VoiceThread has been saved, it is viewable on the “MyVoice” tab, as well as other sample projects. You can search for VoiceThread projects from other users by using the search function!
