1 Warm-Up Have your 5-subject notebook out and be ready to go over the set up for your interactive notebook

2 Notebook Set-up 7th Grade World History

3 Interactive Notebook Set-Up You were required to get a 5-subject spiral notebook for your 7 th grade World History class Your interactive notebook will include a Coat of Arms cover page, a table of contents, and a section for warm-ups

4 Table of Contents After completing your Coat of Arms you will want to leave your next 4 pages blank for your table of contents At the very top of pages label them Table of Contents Just below that you will then make 3 columns labeled Date, Title and Page # You are responsible for keeping your TOC up to date, but you can refer to the side board to help keep up

5 Warm-Ups The last section in your 5 subject notebook will be devoted to your daily warm-ups If the warm-up is a question you will write your answer in this section with the appropriate date If the warm-up is a hand out it needs to be glued into your warm-up section and dated

6 Notebook Checks Notebook checks will be done quarterly I will be looking to make sure that you are keeping up with all your work in your notebooks, your table of contents and your warm-up sections Your notebook checks will count as a grade so it is important to keep your notebook organized

17 Coat of Arms This will be the cover page for your SS interactive notebook

18 Why a coat of arms??? Very few people in medieval times could read or write. Pictures and other visual aids were needed to communicate important ideas or identifying classes in society. Knights especially depended on pictures to express their identity. Each picture had a specific meaning. When these pictures were combined, they created a “Coat of Arms” that was unique to that Knight

19 Shields were divided into sections to represent different characteristics and information pertaining to that Knight. Your shield will be broken into 6 sections: Each section will be broken into the following categories:

20 12 34 56 1.) Color 2.) Animal 3.) Motto 4.) Crest 5.) Nationality 6.) Treasures Name

21 Review of what goes where… 1.) Color- Red: Warrior Green: Hope Blue: Loyalty Black: Intelligence Pink/Purple: Peace Orange: Generosity Yellow: Joy 2.) Animal- Bear: Size Boar: Power Crane: Cunning Dog: Loyalty Dragon: Speed Eagle: Nobility (You can write the name in color if you can’t draw it) 3.) Motto- Describes a family and their history. Make your motto your goals for this school year. 4.) Crest- Family symbol that describe their past. You draw a hobby or things you enjoy to do. 5.) Nationality- Displays the families place of origin. (City, State, Country) You can draw the State you are from or simply write the name. 6.) Treasures- The hopes and dreams of the Knight or the display of wealth. A picture of what you would like to do when you graduate.
