2 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 New Name, Live Project MyBerkeley is now officially CalCentral: calcentral.berkeley.edu It is available for use by students and advisers in the two pilot colleges, CNR and CED.

3 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 The Student View Challenges Too many messages Too much “noise” Hard to find the relevant information Hard to track critical tasks and events such as Add/Drop dates Request Give us official reminders of critical tasks and events. Make them easy to get to.

4 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 The Adviser View Challenges Hard to maintain targeted lists of students. Need to send repeated email messages about the same tasks and events. New Tools Dynamic lists Tasks and events as calendar data

7 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 Notification Authoring A notification can be an event or a task: An event has a place and time A task has a deadline date Events Tasks

8 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 Notification Authoring Creating a notification: If needed, create a new dynamic list. Decide if you want to send a task or an event. Address the notification to a dynamic list. Enter other information including subject and body. Body can contain links to web pages for more information. Enter the date, etc. for the task or event. Enter Send Date. Either save as Draft, or put your notification in the Queue so that it’s sent at midnight on the Send Date.

10 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 Notifications: What Happens After Sending? Students receive: Via CalMail, an email message with an.ics enclosure Via CalCentral, a item in either their My Tasks or My Events widget

11 CalCentral: Notification Authoring August, 2011 Notifications: What Happens After Sending? Opening the.ics enclosure on a student’s computer will save the notification to their computer’s calendar, with the option to sync with online tools such as Google Calendar.
