3.  Jr. Stockshows are considered E days  Extracurricular days do not count as an absence  You have 10 E days – use wisely  County – no days missed  Major shows  Advisors will create list for you to verify  List will be made from entries  Declare breed for day accuracy

4.  Limit of Days  If SA – only go when necessary  Before school and afterschool if possible  If not showing – should be at school If you are listed out – should be at the show during school day. If you don’t go- check in with attendance office Check in with advisors(if applicable) at show to verify you are there.

5.  Depends on Species  Cattle – County – clip for blow and go show  Cattle – Major – slick no more than 10days prior  Swine – EC – no clipping  Swine – Bexar – we clip on Sunday & Monday prior to  Swine – Majors – Day or Two Before At Barn

6.  Sheep/Goats – EC – Wednesday prior  Sheep/Goats – Bexar – reclip on Monday Prior  Sheep/Goats – Majors – Day or Two Prior  Watch the Calendars

7.  Goal – Haul in Fewest Trailers Possible  Proper Transportation-cage,trailer,etc.  Cooperation amongst all going  Health Papers- do you need them Breeding always does Market – most shows do not require it-state fair will for pigs and steers Bed Trailers properly- shavings, straw, hay Separate animals not familiar with each other

8.  Stalling at shows is done by arrival  Arrive together stall together  Teacher supervision is enhanced by being with group  Must be there to load  Feed after arrival at show  Get all belongs prior to leaving

9.  Choosing animal if you have more than one  Fit judge if know judge  Can bring have advisors assist in choosing  Turkeys – all families will help in culling- Usually weekend before show  Broilers – Cull at 21 days and every week after Select pens day before show or two days before Recheck pens at show grounds before checking in

10.  Check with Advisors for Advice on Lengths of Hair  We can assist at the Barn for swine/sheep and goats  Cattle – Coordinate with Mrs. Kempen  Swine Hair Lengths can make difference  Sheep/Goats – may need socks or blankets

11.  Lots of products-you can consider  Need way of transporting supplies  Consolidate when traveling to Shows  Know what grooming products are allowed-water only at some shows  Know show arena equipment allowed  Feeders/Waterers – Have your own and label them

12.  Remember Arrive Together Stall Together- Assigned by show as you arrive  Cattle space will be tight  Sheep and goats – 4, 5 or more in a pen-muzzles  Poultry assigned as you check in- space out EC Chapter’s birds  Hogs – Usually divide with 2 or 3(at majors) in pen  If you have divider bring it  Pens will be assigned at majors and need to honor it  Families with multiples need to be together

13. Cooperate with Fellow members to get all animals in place- then worry about feeding/watering Advisors will pickup check in papers or weight/breed declaration cards Check In procedures vary Breeding will need to check papers at all shows

14. EC and County will weigh/classify each animal Majors – Weight/Classification Cards Advisors will pickup or authorize someone to do so Advisors will help you determine proper weight/breed to declare Cooperation to get arrival weights on animals to declare correct weight Verify the weight turned in with advisor Weigh backs at majors – know what they are

15.  Proper clothes/shoes for show  Know show order  Arrive early stay late  Suggested to arrive 1 hour or more prior to start of show day  Have animal clean, prepared and fed several classes ahead of time to show  Watch show to know what procedure is  Assist others going to show arena

16.  Practice a ring procedure  Know what judge will allow you to do  Know what order they show  Know who judge is  Know what ring procedure is  Know what happens when you leave show ring  Only you can show unless approved substitute.

17.  When can you leave  Take all equipment  Don’t leave before your animal leaves  Cleanup your area

18.  With today’s economy, you better plan ahead for every SA and Bexar County  Write letters, make personal contacts  Be understanding that sale prices may be low

19.  If you make premium sale or auction, you will get ribbon  County – have to take picture  Must attend auction – be there ahead of time-1-2 hours  Thank you Letters – will get list of buyers
